Valerie Speer is a seasoned professional artist whose deep connection to the natural world is vividly reflected in her work. Her paintings open a window into the vast prairies and towering mountains of Western Canada — landscapes that range from peaceful and serene to powerfully expressive. Whether capturing the hush of open skies or the energy of a dramatic storm, Valerie’s work invites viewers into moments of emotional depth and connection with the land.

With a focus on clarity and atmosphere, she uses large shapes, thoughtful contrasts of light and shadow, and a refined palette to create dreamlike scenes that linger in the mind. Her early influences include Lawren Harris and the Group of Seven, whose spirit of bold, simplified form continues to inform her style.

Valerie began her journey with formal training in Visual Arts after high school and has now spent over two decades honing her craft. She exhibits actively in Alberta and British Columbia and welcomes visitors to The Speer and Brush, her own studio and gallery in the arts village of Rosebud, Alberta.

Beyond her painting practice, Valerie is committed to building community among artists. As President of the Rosebud Art Collective, she curates two annual events that bring together artists from across Western Canada. She is also an Associate Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, with work selected for numerous juried exhibitions.

Her work is represented in the following galleries:
Lineham House – Okotoks, AB
The Vault – Strathmore, AB
Art Gallery of Golden – Golden, BC
Alpine Echo Gallery – Revelstoke, BC
